Amazon Brand Registry and Trademark Registration: Amazon Transparency Guide
In the Amazon ecosystem, tools such as Amazon Brand Registry and trademark registration and the Amazon Transparency Program play an important role in protecting your brand value and improving sales performance. In this article we look at each of them from a technical and professional perspective, covering application processes, requirements, benefits and their contribution to SEO. If you want to strengthen your own brand on Amazon, understanding what these programs offer and what they require can be key to your success.
Amazon Brand Registry

Amazon Brand Registry is a program designed to help brands protect themselves and strengthen their presence on the Amazon platform. Sellers with a registered trademark gain more control over their product listings through Brand Registry and get access to dedicated tools for fighting counterfeits. The program helps brand owners offer customers a more professional experience and gain an edge over competitors. Our article Amazon U.S. Customs Duties: A New Calculation for Sellers takes this topic a step further.
Amazon Brand Registry Application Process
To enroll in Amazon Brand Registry, you first need an active Amazon seller account and a registered trademark. In general, the application process consists of the following steps:
- Obtaining a Trademark: Your brand must be an officially registered trademark in a country Amazon accepts. You need a trademark registration number issued by the trademark office in the country where you applied (for example, your national trademark office). (In some cases enrollment may be possible with a trademark application that is still pending, but having your registration certificate in hand is usually the smoothest path.
- Brand Registry Portal: Sign in to the Amazon Brand Registry website (the Brand Registry portal) on behalf of the registered trademark. To start the application, you can log in with your existing Amazon seller account or create a new account if you do not have one.
- Submitting Brand Information: The application form asks for details about your brand. You should provide the brand name, the registration number and trademark office, the countries or regions where the trademark is registered, the product categories (e.g., fashion, electronics) and the brand logo or brand images on the product. To confirm that the brand really belongs to you, Amazon also requests photos showing your brand name or logo permanently affixed to your products or packaging.
- Verification: To verify the information you provided, Amazon usually sends a verification code to, or contacts, the trademark owner of record at the trademark office. Your application is complete once you enter this code in the Amazon Brand Registry portal. Verification can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
- Approval and Enrollment: Once your information is approved, your brand is enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry. You can then start using the rights and tools Amazon provides for your brand's products. Unlike the trademark registration process, a Brand Registry application usually concludes quite quickly (often within a few days).
Technical Requirements for Amazon Brand Registry
For your Amazon Brand Registry application to proceed smoothly, you need to meet the following technical requirements:
- Registered or Pending Trademark: Your brand name must be registered, or have a pending application, with the official trademark office of a country where Amazon operates a store; you do not need to wait for full registration. You should have your registration certificate or your application serial number on hand. The brand should also appear permanently on the product or its packaging. The word mark (name) must match the brand name in the application exactly; if it is a logo (design) mark, you will be asked to upload an image identical to the logo on the registration certificate.
- Brand Applied to Your Products: Your brand name or logo must be permanently printed on your products or packaging. During the application, you are expected to submit photos showing your brand name on the product or package. This is to confirm that your brand is actually used on physical products.
- Brand Ownership: The person or company submitting the application must be the legal owner of the trademark. If you are an authorized agent acting on behalf of the brand owner, the brand owner needs to authorize you for Amazon enrollment and add you to the Brand Registry account.
- Amazon Account: You should have an active Amazon Seller Central or Vendor Central account in good standing. Amazon even recommends using the login credentials of your existing account, if you have one, for your Brand Registry account. Keeping your seller account in good standing (for example, without any restrictions) can also be considered an important technical requirement.
- Product GTIN Codes: (An indirect requirement) To list products on Amazon, your products generally need GTIN barcodes such as UPC/EAN. Although a GTIN is not required at the Brand Registry application stage, unique barcodes for your products are recommended to get the full benefit of the program.
- Relevant Categories: You need to specify the product categories your brand operates in. Knowing in advance which classes your trademark is registered in, and planning which Amazon categories you will list in, helps you provide this information accurately during the application.
These requirements form the basis for Amazon to verify and protect your brand. Accurate and consistent documents and images help your application get approved faster.
Benefits of Amazon Brand Registry
Once you join the Amazon Brand Registry program, your brand gains a range of privileges and benefits:
- Counterfeit and Infringement Protection: Brand Registry protects your product listings against third-party sellers trying to change them without authorization. Content for your brand is always given priority, and even if other sellers try to enter incorrect information, Amazon favors the data provided by the brand owner. With the tools included in the program, you can also detect counterfeit listings and report them to Amazon quickly. Amazon states that it acts on more than 95% of infringement notices within 8 hours, which helps remove counterfeit products quickly.
IMAGE: A+ CONTENT

- Richer Listings with A+ Content: Brand Registry members can create A+ Content (formerly Enhanced Brand Content) on their product detail pages. With A+ Content, you can add high-resolution images, detailed copy, graphics and videos to your product descriptions. This richer content helps customers understand your product better, builds trust and can increase conversion rates. More engaging, professional-looking listings help your brand stand out on Amazon.
- Brand Store (Storefront): You can create an Amazon Store page dedicated to your brand. This store works like a mini website inside Amazon where you can showcase all of your brand's products and customize your brand story and visuals. Presenting your entire portfolio under one roof increases cross-selling opportunities and gives customers a polished shopping experience.

- Advanced Advertising Tools: Once your brand enrollment is approved, you gain access to advanced Amazon ads such as Sponsored Brands and video ads. Sponsored Brands ads appear at the top of search results with your logo and brand name, increasing brand awareness. This lets you promote several products at once and appear above competing products. Brand-registered sellers report that ad approval usually takes less than 24 hours, so you can launch campaigns quickly.
IMAGE: BRAND ANALYTICS

- Brand Analytics and Data Tools: Brand Registry members get exclusive access to the Brand Analytics dashboard and other analytics tools. These tools give you valuable data such as customer search terms, shopping behavior and conversion rates. For example, you can see which keywords customers use to find your products, or their basket preferences. This data is invaluable both for improving your on-Amazon SEO strategy and for shaping your overall marketing strategy.
- Listing Control and Buy Box Advantage: With brand registration, you have full control over your product detail pages. You now hold content authority over product titles, descriptions and images; third-party sellers cannot change the information on your branded products. This keeps your product information consistent and preserves its optimized version. And because you are the original brand owner, fraudulent sellers are kept out, which can improve your chances of winning the Buy Box. Amazon always prioritizes the accurate product information provided by brand owners, giving customers information from the most reliable source.
In short, Amazon Brand Registry supports your brand on both defense and offense: it protects your brand and customer reputation while helping you grow sales through advanced content and advertising options. Many sellers report seeing sales increases after joining the program, thanks to the removal of counterfeit listings and content improvements.

How Amazon Brand Registry Supports SEO
Amazon Brand Registry also gives brands meaningful SEO (Search Engine Optimization) advantages, both in Amazon's own search and in broader digital marketing:
- Priority in Amazon Search Results: Brand Registry members are in a stronger position in product search results. Amazon's algorithm gives priority to product information verified by the brand owner, which can raise the accuracy and trust score of your listings[19]. When several sellers offer the same product, the content and images of the registered brand owner generally take precedence, which helps your product appear in search results with the correct information. As a result, your branded products can gain visibility on Amazon and have a better chance of ranking above competing products.
- Higher Conversion, Better Ranking: Using A+ Content and presenting your brand consistently improves the customer experience and can increase conversion rates. Amazon's search ranking depends not only on keywords but also on sales performance and conversion rates. The richer and more persuasive your product detail page is, the more likely shoppers are to buy, and this signals to Amazon's algorithm that the product is popular and relevant, which can lift its organic ranking. In short, the content advantages you gain through Brand Registry contribute indirectly to Amazon SEO.
- Keyword Strategy and Brand Analytics: The data you get from the Brand Analytics dashboard can strengthen the foundation of your Amazon SEO strategy. By learning which search terms customers use to find your products, you can optimize your listings around these keywords. Seeing which terms have high search volume or drive conversions helps you make smarter edits to product titles and descriptions. This data-driven optimization can help move your search rankings up.
- Advertising and Brand Awareness: Sponsored Brands ads can place your brand at the top of search results for selected keywords. Although this is a paid placement, showing your brand name and logo to a wide audience also makes your brand easier to recognize in organic search. As more customers start searching for your brand, your branded search volume grows, which raises demand for your branded products within Amazon search. Similarly, your Amazon Store page can be indexed by search engines; when potential customers search for your brand on Google, your Amazon Store page appearing in the results can increase your organic traffic.
- Brand Searches Without Competitors: Trademark registration helps you stop competing or counterfeit products that are listed under names similar to your brand. When customers search for your brand on Amazon or Google, they are more likely to see your own products. If your brand is not registered, other sellers may create listings with similar names and cause confusion in search results. Brand Registry and legal trademark protection reduce this risk and strengthen your brand's presence in search results.
In conclusion, even though Amazon Brand Registry is not a direct SEO tool, the content control, data access and brand protection it provides can positively affect your brand visibility and rankings both in Amazon's search engine and across the wider digital landscape. Your brand's chances of appearing on the first page of Amazon search results can increase noticeably, which over the long term can mean more organic traffic and sales.
Trademark Registration

Trademark registration is the legal protection of a brand name or logo, reserving its use exclusively for its owner. For a business, trademark registration is a fundamental step that secures the uniqueness and value of the brand. Read more about Trademark registration for details. A registered trademark is also a prerequisite for joining Amazon Brand Registry, and it protects your brand against copycats not only on Amazon but across all marketing channels. In this section, we cover how trademark registration works, its requirements, its advantages and its indirect contribution to SEO.
Trademark Application Process
The trademark registration process is how you place your brand under official protection, and it generally includes the following steps:
- Preliminary Search: First, make sure the brand name you want to register has not already been registered by someone else. At this stage, search the trademark databases in your target market for identical or similar registered marks. This reduces the risk of opposition or refusal from the start.
- Application Preparation: Once a suitable name is chosen, an application is filed with the relevant trademark office. In the United States, trademark applications are filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The application includes the brand name, owner details, the classes to be protected (product and service categories) and a specimen of the mark (word, logo and so on). The process formally begins once the filing fee is paid.
- Examination and Publication: After filing, trademark examiners review the application for formal and substantive compliance. They assess whether your mark is eligible for registration, using criteria such as distinctiveness and compliance with the law. If it is approved, your application is published in the official trademark gazette. Publication gives third parties the opportunity to oppose the mark. The publication period usually lasts a few months, and if no opposition is filed during this time, the process moves forward.
- Registration and Certification: If the opposition period passes without issues, or any oppositions are rejected, the application qualifies for registration. With the registration decision, the mark is entered in the register and you receive a Trademark Registration Certificate. This certificate shows that your mark is protected exclusively for you in the classes you specified. Completing a trademark registration can take many months, depending on the trademark office, the complexity of the application and whether any oppositions are filed.
This process, from filing the application to receiving the registration certificate, can be managed more easily with the support of a professional trademark agent or intellectual property attorney. Because procedures can differ from country to country, it is important to follow an application strategy suited to the target market. Keep in mind that trademark registration is territorial: legal protection applies only in the country (or region) where your trademark is registered. If you want to protect your brand internationally, you can file in multiple countries through mechanisms such as the Madrid Protocol.
Technical Requirements for Trademark Registration
To complete a trademark application successfully, these are the technical requirements and conditions to keep in mind:
- A Distinctive Mark: The mark you want to register should be distinctive in your industry. Common, descriptive or generic words are usually refused as trademarks on their own. For example, you cannot register only the word “Phone” as a trademark for selling phones. Your mark should be an original name, a coined word or an original logo.
- Choosing the Right Class: When you file a trademark application, you need to specify the classes of goods or services in which your mark will be protected. Selecting the classes relevant to your industry under the international Nice Classification is critical. Technically, choosing a wrong or unrelated class will not protect your mark where you need it. For example, a clothing brand usually selects Class 25 (clothing). Make sure you register the classes that match the product categories you plan to sell on Amazon.
- Specimen and Format of the Mark: The application must include a representation of the mark you want to register. If your mark is a word mark, you state the word exactly as it is. If it is a logo or design mark, an image of the logo at a specified resolution is required. As a technical requirement, your logo should be uploaded in the specified format (usually JPEG/PDF) and size. You should also state whether you claim color (if you do not claim color, the mark is registered in black and white, which means it is protected in any color).
- Application Fees: Every trademark application requires an official fee paid to the national trademark office. In most offices, including the USPTO in the U.S., the fee depends on the number of classes selected. Technically, the fee must be paid correctly for the application to be processed. In online filings, the payment receipt or reference number is usually recorded automatically by the system; in paper filings, the receipt may need to be attached.
- Power of Attorney (Optional): If you file through a trademark agent or attorney, you may need to submit a power of attorney authorizing them before the relevant office. This document is a technical requirement that allows your representative to handle the proceedings on your behalf.
- Trademark Owner Information: The application form must include complete information about the owner of the mark, whether an individual or a legal entity. Name/company name, address and contact details should be complete and accurate. Address details in particular are used both for sending the certificate and for any opposition or renewal notices.
Meeting these technical requirements fully and accurately helps your trademark application move forward smoothly. Applications are often refused, or the office issues additional requests, because of missing documents, a wrong class or a mark that is not distinctive.
Note: For Amazon Brand Registry, it matters that the trademark registration is completed and documented; simply having filed an application may not provide full protection on Amazon. For this reason, starting and completing the trademark registration process as early as possible can benefit your e-commerce strategy.
Advantages of Trademark Registration

Trademark registration offers a business many long-term advantages, not only on Amazon but in every market:
- Legal Protection and Exclusive Rights: A registered trademark gives you the right to use and protect that mark exclusively. Third parties cannot use your mark without permission, and if they do, you can take legal action to stop them. This helps you prevent counterfeits and trademark infringement and protect your brand's reputation. A registered mark in particular strengthens your position against copycats; you can enforce your rights both on platforms such as Amazon and in physical retail.
- Competitive Advantage and Market Position: Trademark registration prevents competitors from selling similar products under names close to yours. This gives you uniqueness in the market. With a registered trademark, you stand apart from competitors in customers' eyes and build brand loyalty. Since no competitor can use the same name, you become the single authority around your brand.
- Credibility and Prestige: When customers buy from a registered brand, they tend to assume it meets a certain quality standard and trust it more. Because you have the right to use the R symbol (®), you can show your brand's official status on every platform. This symbol, and knowing your brand is registered, can increase customer trust and loyalty. Informed consumers in particular prefer official brands to protect themselves from counterfeits.
- Access to Programs on Amazon and Other Platforms: On Amazon, trademark registration is the key to joining the Brand Registry program. Without a registered trademark, you miss out on many benefits on Amazon (such as A+ content, a Brand Store and advertising options). Your trademark registration certificate also makes it easier to get verified accounts or report unauthorized use on social platforms such as Instagram and Facebook. For example, if someone buys a domain with your brand name and launches a website, you may be able to have that site taken down with your registration certificate.
- Brand Value and Investment: Trademark registration allows your brand to be recorded as an asset of your company, which adds tangible value. This makes your brand more attractive to investors or companies considering an acquisition. The more recognized and protected a brand is, the more it adds to the company's value. Licensing and franchise opportunities also open up: you can license your registered trademark to others and earn royalty income from it.
- International Expansion: If you think globally, you can extend your protection by registering your trademark abroad as well. Registering your trademark in markets where Amazon operates, such as the U.S. and Europe, gives you legal protection in those countries and access to Brand Registry there. International trademark registration helps you build a global brand image and reduce the risk of imitation in different countries.
- Government Incentives and Support: In some countries, companies that register trademarks may be eligible for various incentives. For example, government grants or tax benefits may cover part of the cost of registering a trademark abroad. Incentives like these can provide financial support for your company on its branding journey.
In short, trademark registration works like a shield that protects your business identity. It grants you exclusive legal rights and makes your brand look trustworthy, reputable and lasting in the eyes of customers. Building a successful brand on Amazon starts with a solid trademark registration; once that step is taken, the rest of your marketing and sales efforts rest on a much firmer foundation. Keep in mind that where there is no registered trademark, the work you put into a brand can be claimed by others; to avoid that risk, it is wise to make legal protection part of your branding process from the start.
How Trademark Registration Supports SEO
Although the direct SEO impact of trademark registration is less visible than that of Amazon Brand Registry, it can contribute indirectly, both in search engines and within Amazon:
- Unique Brand Searches: Having a registered, original brand name makes it easier for customers searching online to find you. For example, customers may search for your brand name directly on Google or in Amazon's search bar. If your brand is not a generic word and is unique to you, your official website, Amazon storefront or products are likely to appear near the top of search engine results pages (SERP). This helps direct branded search traffic to you. The more search traffic a brand attracts on its own, the stronger its digital presence is considered, which is a positive signal for SEO.
- Reputation and Click-Through Rates: Users who see the ® symbol or an official site title next to your brand in search results may feel more confident and be more inclined to click that result. For example, a result such as “Brand X Official Site” may earn a higher click-through rate than an unbranded e-commerce listing. Click-through rate (CTR) is an important metric in search engine optimization; if your brand is registered and recognized, users are more likely to choose you over competing links, which over time can help your results hold higher positions in search engines.
- Branded Content and Backlinks: Registered brands are often referenced more by media, blogs and users. For example, when a technology blog reviews a product and your brand is registered and known in the market, it may mention the brand by name and link to your website or Amazon page. These reference links, called backlinks, are important factors that can improve your rankings, especially in Google SEO. Trademark registration alone does not generate backlinks, of course, but formalizing and protecting your brand builds a brand image over time, which increases the chance that your name is mentioned and linked in content.
- Keyword Protection Within Amazon: Once your trademark is registered, you are the only one who can use your brand name in the Amazon catalog. For example, if you own the registered brand “XYZ,” your products can stand out among results containing the keyword “XYZ” in Amazon search. Competitors cannot gain an advantage in searches by using your brand name in their listings (doing so would be an infringement and the listing may be removed). This maximizes the value of your brand name as a keyword in Amazon searches: when customers search for your brand name, intentionally or not, your products are the ones they see.
- Brand Story and Content Strategy: Building a digital content strategy around a registered brand tends to be more effective. From social media accounts to blog posts, you can use your brand name with confidence and pride. This grows the volume of content related to your brand in search engines. For example, as news, press releases and customer reviews about your brand increase, Google results related to your brand become richer. That richness gives you more control over branded searches and supports your overall SEO performance.
In summary, trademark registration should be seen as an SEO investment. Perhaps not in the short term, but in the medium to long term it raises your brand's visibility, click-through rates and user trust on search engines and e-commerce platforms. With a registered trademark, you are more likely to have a say wherever your name appears online and to stay near the top of results. Especially in a competitive environment like Amazon, branded searches and brand awareness have become one of the new keys to SEO.
Amazon Transparency Program

Another innovative Amazon service for brand owners is the Amazon Transparency Program. Launched in 2017, the program uses unit-level serialization to proactively prevent counterfeit products from reaching customers. In short, brands enrolled in Transparency place unique, hard-to-copy codes on each product unit, allowing Amazon to verify those products before shipping them. As a result, the product that reaches the customer is confirmed to be authentic. In this section, we look at how Amazon Transparency works, the application process, the requirements and the benefits for your brand.
Applying to the Amazon Transparency Program
To join the Transparency Program, you first need to be enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, which means you must be a seller with a registered trademark. For details on trademark registration, see our U.S. trademark registration service. The application process generally works as follows:
- Eligibility and Application: Before joining Amazon Transparency, make sure you meet the eligibility criteria. First, you must be the legal owner of the brand and be able to prove it (this is usually covered by your Brand Registry membership). Next, go to Amazon's Transparency program page and start the process with the "Get started" or a similar button. You can fill out a short form and request more information from Amazon.
- Approval and Enrollment: Once Amazon reviews and accepts your application, you can log in to the program portal and start enrolling your products in Transparency. At this stage, you choose the products you want to protect under the program. You can add your entire catalog if you wish, but Amazon recommends starting with high-value products so your most critical items are protected first.
- Obtaining the Codes: After enrollment, Amazon provides unique Transparency codes for each unit of your products. These codes are T-shaped 2D barcodes or QR-style codes, and each one is different. There are several ways to get them: you can download the codes from Amazon's portal and print the labels yourself, have them printed by an approved printer or service provider, or integrate the codes directly into your product packaging design. If you already have a serialization system in place, you may also be offered the option to integrate it with Amazon and keep using your own codes.
IMAGE: TRANSPARENCY BARCODES

- Labeling Your Products: You need to apply the codes to the packaging of every product unit. This means an extra step in your production process. These small codes, affixed to or printed on the package, are scanned during Amazon's warehouse processes and at delivery. Having the code placed completely and correctly on every unit is a critical requirement; otherwise, that unit may be treated as "unprotected" on Amazon.
- Verification and Monitoring: When you send coded products to Amazon's fulfillment centers, or ship them yourself (in the case of FBM, fulfilled by merchant), Amazon scans each unit and checks that the code is valid. If the code is valid, the item ships; if the code is missing or invalid, the item is flagged as potentially counterfeit and is not sent to the customer. As a result, no product without a code (that is, outside the program) can be sold under your listing. From the program portal, you can also track scan reports for your protected products and any attempted violations.
Applying for and getting started with the Transparency program is somewhat more operational than Brand Registry, because it involves physical labeling. However, Amazon offers detailed guides and service provider recommendations to make the process easier. Once your application is accepted, you can complete the integration by working with partner printers or by printing the barcodes in your own production. What matters is making sure every product you offer for sale carries a code on its package.
Amazon Transparency Program Technical Requirements
Brand owners who want to join the Transparency Program need to meet a few technical requirements:
- Brand Ownership (Brand Registry): The program is open only to brand owners. Anyone who wants to join must be able to prove they are the legal owner of the brand. This is usually already covered by your Amazon Brand Registry membership. Unlike Brand Registry, Transparency requires the brand to be an active registered trademark, with the rights owner role assigned in the Brand Registry account; a trademark that has only been applied for may not be sufficient for this program.
- Global Trade Item Number (GTIN): Your products should already have a GTIN (a barcode number such as UPC or EAN). In this program, Amazon expects every product to already have a standard barcode identity. This makes product tracking easier and is in fact a general requirement for selling on Amazon. If you have not obtained barcodes for your products, you should get your own from organizations such as GS1.
- Unique Coding per Unit: The core requirement of the program is being able to apply a unique Transparency code to every unit you produce. In other words, your production or packing line must be able to affix or print a code label on every product box or package. This is a somewhat technical and logistical requirement: if you produce at very high volumes, you may need to plan a method that can scale this coding step (automatic labeling machines, integrated printing systems, etc.).
- Code Readability and Validity: The Transparency codes you apply must be readable and valid for Amazon's systems. Technically, the codes should be printed at high quality, at the correct size and in the correct position. You should also never reuse or copy the codes Amazon provides; every unit requires its own code. Because Amazon generates the codes using its own protocol, they cannot be guessed or produced sequentially, which provides security, but it also means you must not modify the codes in any way and should use them exactly as provided.
- Operational Performance Test: Especially for sellers using FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon), Amazon runs a performance verification at the start of the program. It requires the units in your first shipment to be correctly coded and scan without issues at a rate of around 98% or higher. Once you pass this threshold, your products become actively "protected." This requirement exists to prevent misuse of the program and to avoid false positives. If you use FBM (fulfilled by merchant), Amazon may ask you to enter each unit's code when confirming orders and wants to make sure you enter them correctly on your first orders.
In short, the technical requirements come down to having an infrastructure that can apply a unique code to every unit and your brand taking an active role in the process. Before joining the program, talk to your manufacturer or supplier and assess whether this coding can be integrated into the packing stage. As your use of the program grows, you will also need to order more codes from Amazon; Amazon charges no enrollment, subscription or minimum purchase fee, and the per-code fee is USD 0.05 for the first 1 million codes, USD 0.03 for 1 to 10 million, and USD 0.01 above 10 million (Amazon's program page, October 2026). It is important to include this cost and operational dimension in your technical planning.
Benefits of the Amazon Transparency Program
The Transparency Program offers several benefits for brands and customers. Here are its main advantages:
- Preventing Counterfeits: The program's biggest advantage is that it acts as a shield against counterfeiters who take over your product pages. Once a product is enrolled in Transparency, it becomes very difficult for a seller outside the program to sell it. If another seller wants to list on your product, Amazon asks for a valid code for each unit; if there is no code, the unit is flagged as fake and is not shipped. This helps stop counterfeit products before they reach the customer. Sellers listing your brand's products without permission cannot provide codes, so they cannot make sales. As a result, customers cannot buy your products from another seller just because it is cheaper; they come to you, which helps you recover lost sales.
- Higher Revenue and Sales: When counterfeit sellers are blocked, orders that previously went to others can shift to you. This can have a positive effect on your sales revenue. Some counterfeiters also used to list at low prices, putting the original brand under price pressure; Transparency helps remove this unfair competition. Customers buy your product at the best price from your own store. Amazon notes that brands adopting Transparency may see a net increase in sales, especially for high-demand products.
- Protecting Brand Reputation: Counterfeit products in circulation can seriously damage your brand's reputation. When a customer unknowingly buys a fake, they may direct their dissatisfaction at your brand and leave negative reviews. Because the Transparency program helps ensure customers always receive the genuine product, it helps prevent these unfair negative reviews and damage to your brand image. Within the program, customers can also scan the code on the package with the Amazon mobile app to verify authenticity. When the code is scanned, the app shows a green check mark confirming the product is genuine. This gives customers extra confidence and strengthens their respect for your brand.
- Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty: A customer who is sure they bought a genuine product becomes more attached to your brand. Transparency labels act as a bond of trust between the brand and the customer. The program also lets brands share additional product information; a customer who scans the code can access extra content such as promotions, how-to videos or manufacturing details. This enriches the customer experience and encourages loyalty.
- Operational Ease Across Marketplaces: Transparency protection is currently available in 10 countries: the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the UK, Australia, India and Japan. Brands selling in multiple marketplaces can use the same code system in these countries; it is still worth checking separately which products are enrolled in which marketplace. Because these codes are scanned in Amazon warehouses, inventory errors and wrong shipments can also be reduced; if a code does not match, the system sets the units aside, helping the right product reach the right customer.
- Supply Chain and Inventory Tracking: Because the Transparency program gives each unit a unique identity, it also lets brands trace their products. Amazon provides brand owners with reports showing how many units were coded in each batch, which reached the warehouse and which were scanned. This data can help identify possible supply chain issues (for example, if there is a problem with a specific batch, it can be isolated by its codes). In other words, the program can help not only against external threats but also with internal tracking.
In short, the Amazon Transparency Program creates a safer selling environment in e-commerce, especially for original brand owners. Sellers can feel at ease knowing they keep full control of their product pages. Customers, in turn, can shop with peace of mind without wondering whether the product is genuine.
According to Amazon's own data, more than 90,000 brands have joined the program and more than 2.7 billion product units have been verified as authentic (May 2026). These figures show how widely the program has been adopted. If your products have the potential to be counterfeited or you want to protect your brand image, Transparency can be a serious solution partner.
How the Amazon Transparency Program Supports SEO
IMAGE: AMAZON TRANSPARENCY AND SEO

Although the Transparency Program is an anti-counterfeiting measure, it can also indirectly support your brand's SEO and search visibility:
- Cleaner Competition in Search Results: When shoppers searched for popular brands on Amazon, results sometimes included products from counterfeit or unauthorized sellers listed with similar images and names. With the Transparency program, these unwanted listings can be removed for your brand's protected products. When a customer searches for your brand on Amazon, they see only your listings. This can increase your click-through rate because there are no fake alternatives distracting the customer. As a result, your products' performance in Amazon search can improve.
- Better Product Ratings and Reviews: SEO is not only about matching search algorithms; it is also about user experience. Quality reviews and a high average rating matter for ranking higher in Amazon search. When low-rated reviews caused by counterfeit products are prevented, your product's customer satisfaction score stays high.
This can help you earn badges such as Amazon's "Best Result" and can also increase your product page's conversion rate. Since product ratings and sales volume are important factors in Amazon SEO, the metrics improved by Transparency can have a positive, if indirect, effect on your rankings. - Trust in Branded Searches: Say a user searches Google for your brand or product. If it is known that you are enrolled in the Transparency program (you can usually mention this in your product descriptions or on your Amazon store page), users are likely to see your brand as trustworthy.
Trusted brands tend to earn more clicks, and users tend to stay on the site longer. This also helps from a Google SEO perspective: when a user clicks a search result and spends time on the content instead of leaving right away (a bounce), Google tends to read that result as higher quality. The trust that Transparency builds can indirectly support this kind of user behavior. - How Sales and Stock Stability Affect SEO: On Amazon, when a product had the potential to reach the best seller list, counterfeit sellers would often add stock and intensify competition, sometimes even undercutting price to keep the original seller from winning the Buy Box. This can affect the product's sales velocity and, in turn, its position in Amazon search. Because Transparency helps remove this scenario, your products' sales velocity becomes more consistent and predictable, moving with the price and strategy you set.
Amazon's search algorithm favors stable stock and reliable order fulfillment, so your product's search ranking is less exposed to negative outside factors. Over time, a product that only you sell and that reaches customers without issues tends to rank better than a product in a chaotic competitive environment. - Lower Negative SEO Risk: Some bad actors used unethical tactics, such as fake purchases followed by negative reviews, to push down competitors' pages. Because the Transparency program allows only you to sell your product, it helps block these kinds of organized negative attempts. Since your products always have a verified owner, you are more resilient to competitors' manipulative strategies. As a result, critical SEO metrics such as your product page's average rating and keyword ranking are shaped fairly, by real customer interactions.
In short, while the main focus of the Amazon Transparency Program is brand protection, the environment of trust and fair competition it creates can have a positive effect both in Amazon search results and on your overall digital visibility. When customers can easily find the official product of the brand they are looking for and buy it with confidence, that satisfaction can strengthen the brand's digital reputation and search performance. As brand credibility and user experience matter more and more in search optimization, programs like Transparency stand out for their indirect SEO benefits.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Amazon Brand Registry, trademark registration and the Amazon Transparency Program are complementary elements for protecting and growing your brand in e-commerce. Trademark registration is the legal foundation and the starting point; it gives your brand exclusivity and opens the door to advanced tools on platforms like Amazon.
Amazon Brand Registry protects and strengthens your registered trademark online, while giving you valuable capabilities such as content control, advertising and analytics. The Transparency Program goes one step further by verifying the authenticity of every unit that reaches a customer and reinforcing your brand's credibility.
From a professional brand management perspective, using these three pillars correctly can help you stand out from the competition. When you complete the application processes on time, meet the requirements and join these programs, you can start to see the benefits fairly quickly: cleaner product listings, higher customer trust, growing sales and a stronger SEO profile. For anyone who wants to build a lasting business on Amazon under their own brand, trademark registration and Brand Registry are close to essential, and the Transparency Program is a long-term investment in brand reputation.
Ultimately, a strong brand rests on both legal protection and digital protection. On a marketplace as large as Amazon, protecting your brand from bad-faith sellers, counterfeit products and content changes outside your control is key to sustainable success. That is why, if you have not yet registered your trademark, we recommend taking the necessary steps as soon as possible; if you already have a registered trademark, we recommend enrolling in Amazon Brand Registry and, if you are eligible, considering the Transparency Program.
Remember, protecting your brand value is as important a step as creating it, and Amazon offers tools to support you along the way. The processes we covered from start to finish can help you build a safer, more visible and more successful e-commerce operation.
