Selling on Amazon UK

Selling on Amazon UK: UK VAT, EORI, Responsible Person and FBA in One Plan

Selling on Amazon UK is the model in which a manufacturer sells to UK consumers through Amazon.co.uk and delivers from Amazon's FBA warehouses. Export Partners is an Amazon SPN verified team that runs this process for manufacturers, from UK VAT and GB EORI registration through the UK responsible person and UKCA compliance, UKIPO trademark, first shipment and launch.

How does selling on Amazon UK work?

Amazon.co.uk has been a marketplace separate from Amazon Europe since Brexit: EU VAT, EORI and responsible person registrations do not carry over to the UK, so a separate file is opened for the UK. A company established in your home country can open an account directly; setting up a UK Ltd company is not required, though some sellers prefer it for banking and tax convenience.

Products are shipped to the UK via FBA. A foreign seller holding stock in the UK must register for UK VAT with no threshold; customs entry requires a GB EORI, an importer solution and, depending on the product group, the UKCA mark and a UK-based responsible person. In most cases Amazon collects VAT itself on sales by overseas sellers to consumers; registration is still mandatory.

For brand protection, a UKIPO trademark application opens Brand Registry; an EU (EUIPO) registration is not valid in the UK.

How does selling on Amazon UK work in four steps?

01

Account and registration sequence

The Amazon.co.uk account is opened; GB EORI, UK VAT and the importer arrangement are started the same week. Whether a UK Ltd is needed is decided in the first call based on product and volume.
02

Compliance and trademark

UKCA and UK responsible person file, food and cosmetics label compliance; UKIPO trademark application and Brand Registry.
03

Listing, A+ and FBA UK

Listings, A+ content and a brand store built on the keywords UK shoppers search; FBA shipment plan, import and first shipment.
04

Launch and management

PPC setup, first reviews, inventory tracking and weekly reporting; managed on one calendar together with your European account.

How long does it take, and how is the fee set?

StageDuration
Account opening and verificationusually 1 to 3 weeks
GB EORIa few business days
UK VAT numberusually 2 to 6 weeks; may vary with HMRC workload
UK responsible person and UKCA file1 to 3 weeks, depending on the product group
Total, from setup to first saleusually 2 to 3 months

The service fee is quoted based on the number of product groups and the scope; third-party fees such as the UK VAT agent, responsible person and importer solution, as well as Amazon commissions, FBA and advertising budget, are separate. Setup only, a 3-month launch and management, or a package with a UK company are listed on the service packages page.

Three points specific to the UK

EU registrations do not carry over. An EUIPO trademark, EU EORI, EU responsible person and German VAT cannot be used in the UK. Even if you have a European account, the UK requires a separate set of registrations and separate FBA stock.

Amazon collects the VAT, the registration is yours. In most cases Amazon collects VAT on sales by overseas sellers to UK consumers and pays it to HMRC; even so, a seller holding stock in the UK must register for VAT and file returns.

Cosmetics and food. Cosmetics require a UK-based responsible person and SCPN notification, food requires compliance with UK labeling rules; the steps for selling dietary supplements in the UK are in this guide.

Also available as a package

Setup only, a 3-month launch and management, or a full package together with FDA, company and trademark services. Scope and comparison on one page.
